For the first time ever, SSC has come up with a new pattern of testing candidates for SSC CGL Tier 3 exam. Instead of a interview, one will have to appear for a Written Descriptive exam which aims at checking proficiency in ideation, planning and putting it to paper. This exam will be an offline, pen and paper based exam and will evaluate how well you can convey your thoughts and ideas when required to do so.
 

SSC CGL Tier 3 Exam Pattern:

  1. The SSC CGL Tier 3 Paper is worth 100 marks.
    • The Essay may carry 50-60 marks
    • If there is both Letter/Application writing as well Précis Writing, they may each carry 20-30 marks each. If just one of these two are asked, expect the Letter/Application to be worth 40 marks.
  2. It would be an offline exam based on pen and paper.
  3. Duration of the paper will be 1 hour.
  4. The topics would include Essay Writing (250- 300 Words)/ Precis Writing/ Letter Writing.
  5. The paper is bilingual. You can choose to write in either Hindi or English.

  1. ESSAY

Since the paper is written and there is no specific narrow topic or reference which is provided, candidates have to make the best use of their general knowledge and current affairs knowledge to ace this exam. Reading up on the current

  • technological (ISRO satellite launch, BHIM App),
  • sport (Wins, retirements) and

  1. LETTER / PRECIS

The second part of the SSC CGL Tier 3 Syllabus is letter writing. This is expected to be of a normal nature, consisting of applications, complaints, presenting of views to a concerned person, etc. In general, one should practice the same from NCERT textbooks and other material available to have a better understanding of how to write different types of letters for different purposes. Practice and formatting are key to acing the letter writing part of the same.
Precis writing is the third and final part of the SSC CGL Tier 3 Syllabus. It is a form of testing where a passage is provided to the candidate and you are required to explain or present the same or a part of the passage in an exact number of words (60 or 100). The key to writing a good precis is again practice. It is also a good idea to first write the precis in rough and make changes right there before finally putting it into the grid format as prescribed.
Writing is all about what you read, how much you read, how you critically process it and how you reproduce it as an original content. So for the SSC CGL Tier 3 syllabus descriptive paper, read as much as you can and practice/ write even more.
